The history text books in the country have been woefully distorted for political ends. In this book, he has critiqued and provided the corrections for 66 text books being taught in the Social Studies, Pakistan Studies and History disciplines to students from grades 1 to 14. It s indeed a courageous effort that unfortunately went unnoticed in his time. But then again, according to Aziz, he wrote this for posterity after all.

This is a great book about the lies and fabrications in history textbooks that students in Pakistani schools have to use. Other authors that have written on this topic include Yvette Rosser (Islamization of Pakistani Social Studies Textbooks) and A.H. Nayyar ("the subtle subversion").
Aziz writes pessimistically in the preface that what he has "written will bring no change" to the textbooks, and that "in a hundred years' time; when the future historian sets out to contemplate the Pakistan off an age gone by and look for the causes that brought it low, he; might find in this book of mine one small candle whose quivering flame will light his path."
I hope that he is proven wrong and that the people of Pakistan will wake up and let the light of science and truth shine again in Pakistan.
Great investigative work. Aziz compiled his findings from hundreds of textbooks from the many textbook boards that exist in Pakistan and lists them exhaustively. There is very good critique of the findings that is mixed in with the listing of findings with refreshing inferences that are still applicable although for someone under the age of 40, much of this may actually come as a bit of a shock.
The book could have been better written. There is a very haphazard list of many mistakes from the textbooks that constitute Chapter 1. This chapter runs for over 100 pages. Could easily have been placed in annexes. In chapter 2 which is far more intersting, there is an event by event account. The usual scheme is to give the mistakes, then the correction and then an interpretation. However, all of these tend to blend into each other and the reader has to pause to discern where the mistake ended and the correction began.
I would love to see a re-editing of the book to make it easier reading. It deserves to be read and re-read by all those who are interested in Pakistani history in specific and political economy in poor countries in general.
